He could feel the tension in her grip as she held his hand tightly, fear evident in her eyes. The sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder as they approached the hospital. Lucas’s mind was racing, trying to piece together how everything had gone so wrong.

In the lobby, Margaret Bennett stood with her usual air of superiority. Her eyes, cold and calculating, locked onto Lucas as he descended the stairs. Richard, the family lawyer, stood beside her, clutching a folder that seemed to contain more than just papers. Lucas knew he had to confront them, to find out how far they were willing to go.

“Lucas, dear,” Margaret began in her sweet but venomous tone, “I heard there was a bit of an incident. Is Emma alright?” Her concern was as fake as the smile she wore.

Lucas, keeping a tight hold on his emotions, replied, “She’s going to the hospital. There are some complications.” He glanced at Richard, who was watching him with a smirk. “What’s in the folder, Richard?”

Richard smiled, a thin, practiced expression. “Just some routine paperwork, Lucas. Nothing you need to worry about.”

Lucas took a deep breath, trying to control the anger bubbling inside. “Routine paperwork? You mean like the papers Emma mentioned? The ones I supposedly signed?”

Richard feigned confusion. “I’m sure it’s all a misunderstanding. We’ll sort it out, don’t you worry.”

Emma was being loaded into the ambulance, and Lucas knew he had to go with her. But he also knew he needed to address the threat standing before him. “This isn’t over,” he said, his voice steady despite the turmoil inside.

Margaret stepped closer, lowering her voice to a whisper. “Lucas, you have to understand. Emma isn’t suitable for our family. We can’t let her ruin everything you’ve worked for.”

“Emma is my wife,” Lucas said firmly. “And that’s my child she’s carrying. I won’t let you or anyone else hurt them.”

Margaret’s expression hardened. “Think carefully about your next move, Lucas. Family is everything.”

Lucas nodded, his mind already made up. “Yes, it is. Which is why I’m going to protect mine.”

He turned away, leaving Margaret and Richard in the lobby as he climbed into the ambulance beside Emma. Her hand reached for his as soon as he sat down, her eyes filled with relief at his presence.

“Lucas, I’m scared,” she whispered.

“I know,” he said softly, squeezing her hand. “But I’m going to fix this. I promise.”

The ride to the hospital was tense. Lucas stayed by Emma’s side, holding her hand and offering whatever comfort he could. As they arrived, a team of doctors and nurses sprang into action, whisking her away for examination.

Lucas was left in a sterile waiting room, the harsh fluorescent lights reflecting off the white walls. He pulled out his phone, determined to get to the bottom of the paperwork Richard had been holding. But first, he needed to alert someone he could trust. He called his friend Jake, an attorney who had been with him through thick and thin.

“Jake, I need your help,” Lucas said as soon as Jake picked up.

“What’s going on, Lucas?”

“It’s a long story. But I think someone in my family forged my signature on some legal documents. Can you meet me at the hospital?”

“Of course. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

As Lucas ended the call, he felt a small sense of relief knowing he had someone on his side. He needed to unravel the conspiracy against Emma and protect their unborn child. The road ahead was uncertain, but he was ready to fight for his family.

If you want to read more about what happens next, leave a comment below this Facebook post.
