The Ohio Supreme Court&#8217;s decision not to review the case leaves that ruling in place&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/crime\/mackenzie-shirilla-the-crash-appeal-trial\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxygen.com\/index%2ephp\/crime-news\/the-crashs-mackenzie-shirilla-appeal-denied-serving-15-years-to-life\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In her appeals, Shirilla&#8217;s lawyers have argued that her trial counsel was ineffective for failing to investigate a pre-existing medical condition, POTS, that they claim could have caused her to black out before the crash&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/23\/us-news\/hell-on-wheels-killer-mackenzie-shirillas-latest-appeal-for-new-trial-shot-down\/#content\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/noticias.foxnews.com\/us\/mackenzie-shirilla-appeal-rejected-court-crash-revives-hell-wheels-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>. However, the courts have consistently rejected this argument.
