The driver, Brian Briggs, said he was left &#8220;devastated&#8221; after his vehicle struck two cemented metal prongs protruding from the highway&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jalopnik.com\/cement-prongs-left-on-georgia-highway-cause-2-000-in-d-1851660066\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/atlanta\/man-said-he-was-devastated-after-hitting-cement-prongs-along-i-285-causing-2000-damage\/XVYVEPG2CRBWXNZ6LDJ5GD3PZA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident occurred earlier this month on I-285 westbound near Peachtree Industrial Boulevard&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/atlanta\/man-said-he-was-devastated-after-hitting-cement-prongs-along-i-285-causing-2000-damage\/XVYVEPG2CRBWXNZ6LDJ5GD3PZA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>. Briggs explained that he was attempting to pull onto the shoulder of the highway when he hit the prongs. The damage from the unexpected road hazard cost him more than $2,000 to repair, putting a significant financial strain on the driver&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jalopnik.com\/cement-prongs-left-on-georgia-highway-cause-2-000-in-d-1851660066\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigative reporters later visited the scene and confirmed the presence of the hazardous prongs sticking out of the roadway&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/atlanta\/man-said-he-was-devastated-after-hitting-cement-prongs-along-i-285-causing-2000-damage\/XVYVEPG2CRBWXNZ6LDJ5GD3PZA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the prongs were remnants of a permanent exit sign that had been installed in May but was struck by another vehicle.
